Solar Imaging Session - April 25, 2011

The sky this morning is clear and seeing condition is fair. AR11193 Sunspot Group is already near the NW limb and probably be gone by tomorrow. AR11195 Sunspot Group, on the other hand is starting to deteriorate a bit but nevertheless still quite nice to look at. AR11196 Sunspot Group is still small but is starting to develop a little bit more in sunspot numbers and activity.

I calculated my observation window this morning which is more or less about 40 minutes of observation and imaging time for me. Although quite short, I was still able to image both in white light and Ha wavelength this morning.

Solar Imaging Session - April 24, 2011

The sky this morning is clear and seeing is fair. Since I miss doing white light solar work, I reverse my work flow this morning and start out with white light observation and imaging. Most prominent subject of course is beautiful AR11195 Sunspot Group which shows a nice complex structure.

Small AR11186 Sunspot Group is relatively inconspicious in white light wavelength but has active solar activity in H-Alpha wavelength. AR11193 Sunspot Group is near the NW limb and is showing Wilson Effect thus features are almost dull because of this effect although a lot of faculae can be seen surrounding it.

I wasn't able to image in H-Alpha wavelength as I got obstructed already by our roof :( Anyway, I will try to see if I can setup in our laundry area to get some H-Alpha images if weather still ok around lunchtime.

At around lunchtime, I brought out the PST-Ha into our laundry area and took a few shots of the Sun in Ha wavelength. AR11195 Sunspot Group continues to grown in size while small AR11196 Sunspot Group shows its beauty in Ha amid its puny size and feature in white light :) There are lots of dark filaments in the NE limb and a joy to look at as well!

Lastly, departing AR11193 Sunspot Group continues to show its activeness in Ha light while about to exit the NW limb. Seeing is again very poor during the imaging session.

Solar Imaging Session - April 23, 2011 (Nice AR11195 & AR11196 Sunspot Group)

I wake up late this morning after doing some lunar work after midnight. The sky this morning is ok and seeing is fair. AR11193 Sunspot Group is nearing the NW limb and is starting to deteriorate a bit.

But all eyes now is set on AR11195 Sunspot Group as it looks active. Nearby AR11196 Sunspot Group looks promising as well but will know in a day or two.

But due to late wake up, I could only image the Sun today in Ha wavelength only so no white light images for me :(

Lunar Imaging Session - April 23, 2011

Last night, the sky was clouded out so my planned lunar imaging session looks more of a canceled session. But as I get out of bed later after midnight and looks out of my window, I saw the Waning Gibbous Moon in the eastern horizon but through thin clouds and haze.

Nevertheless, I quickly setup and proceeded to observe and image the Moon. The image was very jumpy because of bad seeing. I feel even worst than my other day imaging session :( Anyway, proceeded with imaging some interesting features and region until I get obstructed again by the roof :(

Image came out ok but not that good I guess. Better than no image at all.

Lunar Imaging Session - April 21-22, 2011

With the cloudy skies in the morning for the past few days, I turn my eyes to the Waning Gibbous Moon this evening after we attended a wake. The Moon was low in the eastern horizon and since I was a bit tired already from the travel that evening, I make a quick imaging session on the Moon with the TV-101 refractor from whole disk through closeup shots of the Moon's interesting features.

Although seeing is not that good, I'm still happy with the results as it helps quench my astro imaging thirst even for a short moment :) LOL

Solar Imaging Session - April 21, 2011

The sky this morning is cloudy but seeing is fair. I had a hard time acquiring image this morning because of the darn clouds :( Nevertheless, I was able to get only a shot of AR11193 Sunspot Group in Ha wavelength before I got totally clouded out :(

Solar Imaging Session - April 19, 2011 (Huge Eruptive Prominence at SE limb Still Visible !!!)

The sky this morning is partly cloudy and seeing is not that great. AR11190 Sunspot Group is about to exit into the NW limb while AR11193 continues to grow in structure specially on its main core component. Small AR11191 Sunspot Group, on the other hand, starts to deteriorate and shrinking.

The huge eruptive prominence that was visible in the SE limb yesterday is still visible but has shrunk down in size a bit. The NE and SE limb also shows some solar activities that might indicate new active regions developing.

Solar Imaging Session - April 18, 2011 (Another Huge Eruptive Prominence at SE limb !!!)

I wasn't feeling well this morning thus decided to stay home to get needed rest. As I rest, I saw the Sun rising pass my lower roof obstruction thus I managed to get all the remaining strength I have to start imaging the Sun in Ha wavelength and was glad to see a huge eruptive prominence in the SE limb! I also saw AR11190 starting to exit near the NW limb. In white light, only the main core of AR11190 remains on this once huge sunspot group. It can be seen surrounded by bright faculae as well. AR11193 Sunspot Group continues to grow in structure while small AR11191 remain almost the same in size.
